How To Trust God When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

Life is full of ups and downs, twists and turns. Sometimes, it feels like everything is falling into place, but other times, it seems like everything is falling apart. When faced with uncertainty, pain, or confusion, it is natural to question God’s plan and wonder if He’s still in control. However, we are called to trust God even when life doesn’t make sense.

The Bible says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6). However, how do we put this into practice?

1. Acknowledge Your Emotions

It is essential to recognise how you feel and be honest with God about your emotions. David writes in Psalm 13:1-2, “How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” David’s raw emotions and pleas for help show us that it is totally fine to express our emotions to God.

    2. Seek God’s Presence

“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). Take time to meditate, pray, and read the Bible. Focus on God’s character and promises, rather than your own circumstances.

    3. Remember God’s Faithfulness

Reflect on times when God has been faithful in your life or in the lives of others. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31). Remembering God’s faithfulness builds our trust and confidence in His goodness.

    4. Surrender Control

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Trust that God is working everything out for your good.

    5. Find Comfort in God’s Promises

Hold onto God’s promises and truths, even when life doesn’t make sense. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

    Summary

Trusting God when life doesn’t make sense requires faith, patience, and perseverance on our part. Remember that God is always with you, even in the darkest of times. As you seek Him and surrender to His plan, He will guide you through every uncertainty and bring you out stronger on the other side.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
